PACT postboxes
Posted: 18/05/2008 13:47:21
PACT (Partners and Communities Together) postboxes have been launched in Bromsgrove town centre for people to be able to have their say.
The postboxes give residents an opportunity to outline issues that are important to them.
The postboxes will be emptied each month, and the issues taken to the next meeting.
PACT postboxes can be found at The Hub on the ground floor of the Dolphin Centre, in the Dolphin Centre itself, the Ryland Centre, New Road GP surgery, Bromsgrove Library, and the Methodist Centre.
Community Support Officer Julie Wright said: “The postboxes are aimed at members of the community who may find it difficult to get to PACT meetings, such as single parents, elderly people, and shift workers.
“We know that for various reasons evenings meetings are not convenient for everyone and therefore the postcards will give us an additional way of communicating with members of the local community.
"We hope the postboxes will produce a more representative view of residents' concerns than having meetings alone.”
Fellow CSO Jack Ford added: “We have tried to site the postboxes in locations which are at the heart of the town, where people are likely to visit on a regular basis, such as the library, where users can fill in a postcard at the same time as choosing their books, and we have also tried to place them in places that teenagers will go to, such as the leisure centre, to reach young people.
“When we empty the postboxes, the PACT panel, made up of representatives of the police, council, and other organisations, will look at the issues which are of concern and consider what actions we can take to tackle them.”
The next PACT meeting for St John’s is on Thursday 3rd July at 7pm at St John’s Middle School.
