Shrewsbury LPO Praised by Community

Posted: 23/05/2008 14:40:51

A local police officer has been described as “what a community police officer should be” by residents just weeks after taking up his rural post outside Shrewsbury.

Constable Ram Aston has already become a welcome part of the community for Bayston Hill and Haughmond, with praise such as “brilliant” and “really great with people” already sent his way.

He and his two community support officers Dave Bryant and Lyn Birch have already begun to tackle ongoing issues in the area, including parking problems outside St Lucia’s Church of England School in Upton Magna and dealing with anti-social behaviour.

Councillor Claire Wild, who represents the Haughmond and Attingham ward, said PC Aston worked really hard and had already attended at least four meetings in his own time during the past few weeks.

“PC Ram Aston is brilliant. He is really great with people, young and old alike, and has made such a difference in the short time he has been with us,” she said.

“He is exactly what a community police officer should be, he’s great with everybody. He’s highly visible in the community and we’ve not had anything close to that before now. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“All my parishes feel the same way. I sincerely hope that the parishes within Haughmond and Attingham enjoy his services for a long time to come.”

Mrs Liz McAvan, head of St Lucia’s Church of England Primary School in Upton Magna, also praised PC Aston for his dedication.

“He’s already been into the school and introduced himself to the children with a big smile and has really made himself a part of the community already,” she said.

“He’s even dealt with the issue of parking outside, which we had a problem with like most other schools, reminding people where they could park without causing a danger to the children and slowing the traffic down.

“We are really pleased to have him as our local police officer.”

PC Aston previously worked in Bridgnorth as a local police officer, before taking up a post at West Mercia Headquarters in Worcestershire for a while prior to coming to Bayston Hill and Haughmond.
