Storytelling in yurt at Colwall library

Posted: 23/06/2008 14:46:03

As part of Colwall Festival and to celebrate the National Year of Reading, Herefordshire Council’s Colwall Library is hosting an exciting event for all of the family on Saturday, July 12.

Cat Weatherill, a performer, storyteller and acclaimed author of Bark Belly, Snowbone and Wild Magic, will be performing some of her stories in a yurt.

A yurt is a traditional style nomadic tent from Mongolia and other central Asian countries and makes an ideal space in which to read and listen to stories.

At 11.15am on the day there will be a special baby bounce and rhyme session in the yurt. A librarian will lead these sessions, which also take place regularly at libraries throughout the county. They will feature traditional and modern songs and rhymes suitable for babies and children from 0 to three years old.

Cat Weatherill will tell stories in the yurt from 12.30pm until 1.15pm and again from 1.30pm until 2.15pm.

The events are free and all are welcome to attend.

Anne-Marie Dossett, Herefordshire Council’s reader development librarian, said: “We are keen to encourage more families to use the library and to make them fun places for youngsters to visit.

“We hope people planning to go to Colwall Festival events will pop along to these fun sessions at the library as well and see just how much fun reading can be for all of the family.

“2008 is the National Year of Reading and whether children love films, sci fi or music, we would still love them to read more and encourage others to do so,” she added.
