Major Refurbishment for Cleobury Police Station
Posted: 14/08/2008 00:20:33
Cleobury Mortimer police station is to undergo a major upgrade to improve facilities for both the public and locally based officers.
The station, which is not permanently staffed, is one of the smallest in Shropshire, but plays an important role within the local community.
Situated in Talbot Square, it will be shut for about three months from August 25 while contractors carry out the works.
Shropshire Police Division’s Support Services Manager, Vicky Mantle said much of the work was designed to improve public access for members of the public and especially for those with disabilities.
A ramp is being built up to a new door and glass frontage allowing full wheelchair access. Other measures are also being introduced inside the premises to assist callers with disabilities.
The improvements also include a new front counter, a rear door, a shower for staff and a new kitchen. Total cost will be around £100,000.
Mrs Mantle said the improvements would make the station more accessible and user-friendly while creating a better working environment for those working there.
“The refurbishment will certainly provide a modern, improved facility for the town and surrounding area. It also underlines West Mercia’s commitment to retaining its rural police stations in Shropshire and other parts of the Force area.”
While the station is closed, the resident Local Policing Team – PC Sarah Payne and CSO Nick Morris – will be based at Ludlow but will continue to work in the Cleobury and Burford area.
Anyone requiring non emergency police assistance will be able to contact South Shropshire’s main police station at Ludlow on 08457-444-888.
