Construction of apple pressing barn approved

Posted: 11/12/2008 20:48:59

Planning permission for the construction of an apple pressing barn and relocation of shop at Lyne Down Farm, Much Marcle, near Ledbury, was approved by members of the southern area planning sub-committee at their meeting on Wednesday, December 10th.

Plans propose an L-shaped building to provide an apple pressing barn for the process and storage of 30,000 litres of apple juice, a display and sales area, office and wc. Cider sales are currently made from the farmhouse.

Lyne Down Cider has been growing cider apples and perry pears for nearly two centuries.

Much Marcle Parish Council had no objection in principle.

An objection was received saying there are already adequate facilities for the production and storage of cider and perry and said the field should remain for agricultural use.
