Christmas fair is hailed a success
Posted: 12/12/2008 20:19:21
A Redditch Christmas fair supported by organisations including the police looks set to have raised more than £200.
The first Woodrow Christmas Fair was held on Saturday 6th December in the Woodrow Centre.
The event was very well attended throughout the day by 200 to 300 people.
It was organised by The Welcome Centre, a relatively new group set up to put something back into the community, with support from the Local Policing Team from Redditch Police, Redditch Borough Council, local traders and local churches, who all contributed to make the day successful.
The day concluded with the switching on of the first ever local tree lights by Councillor Wanda King and Janet Whitehouse, Care Administrator at Acorns Hospice.
Local Policing Officer PC Nigel Bennett said: “Everyone had a great day. The level of work and commitment given by all the partnership groups was inspirational. Many congratulations are due especially to the Welcome Centre team who brought the event together.
“I would personally thank the council and local traders who with little persuasion parted with time and money to bring the Christmas tree literally to light.
“Sponsorship of the lights by local residents in memory of loved ones looks set to raise more than £200 for the Acorns Hospice.
“Finally all the groups would like to pass on thanks to the hundreds who attended, making this event such a success, and we now hope it can take place on an annual basis.”
