Yellow pages goes green again

Posted: 24/07/2006 15:14:17

Householders in West Oxfordshire are being urged by the District Council to recycle their old 2005/06 Yellow Pages directory when the new 2006/07 edition is delivered to their homes over the next few weeks.

And by writing their name and address on their old copy before placing it in one of the designated recycling banks, residents will be entered into a summer prize draw. One old Yellow Pages directory will be
randomly selected during August and September, with the lucky winners receiving £50 each.

The old directories need to be collected separately and cannot be recycled through the normal weekly household recycling collections. So the Council has been given a grant by the Yellow Pages Directory Scheme to place special recycling banks around the district to make it easier for local residents to recycle
their old Yellow Pages directory.

Householders are to look out for the recycling banks with bright Yellow Pages stickers on them at the following locations throughout August and September:

Burford (Guildenford)
Carterton (Black Bourton Road)
Charlbury (Spendlove Centre)
Chipping Norton (New Street)
Eynsham (Back Lane)
Long Hanborough (Reily Close)
Witney (Welch Way)
Woodstock (Hensington Road)

All the old directories collected will be recycled into newspapers and magazines.

Cllr David Harvey, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Thanks to the support of Yellow Pages we
are delighted to be offering increased directory recycling opportunities to our residents. I encourage everyone to use these facilities over the next few weeks.”

Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: “Directory recycling is a key business aim for us and we are delighted that the council and people of West
Oxfordshire are helping us improve our environmental performance.”
