New play equipment for Milton-under-Wychwood

Posted: 19/12/2008 14:29:07

Children in Milton-under-Wychwood can look forward to having a new play area thanks to a £20,000 grant from West Oxfordshire District Council.

The Council’s Cabinet has recommended that the grant be given to Milton-under-Wychwood Parish Council towards a range of equipment to cater for children under six years. The Parish Council is contributing £25,000, including donated funds, towards the project.

New equipment will be installed alongside the existing play area, which is owned and managed by the Parish Council, on the Village Green and ranges from a seesaw and roundabouts to a large climbing and activity centre with slide.

Cllr Hilary Biles, West Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health, said: “The existing play area is designed for older children, so this new equipment will mean a great deal to younger children and their parents. We are extremely pleased to be able to support local communities such as Milton-under-Wychwood in this way.”

The funding is being allocated from the District Council’s Outdoor Recreation and Play Facilities Grant scheme for 2008/09.

Cabinet Members have also agreed to award £745 to Minster Lovell Playing Fields Trust towards the cost of two new swings at the village play area.
