Improved dry changing facilities on the way
Posted: 11/03/2009 13:43:49
Work has begun to create bigger, better dry changing rooms for users of the Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney. There will be separate changing areas for males and females, with new toilet and shower facilities, including private shower cubicles, lockers and extra bench seating. The dry changing facilities will, for the first time, give swimming pool access to people who wish to take part in both dry activities, such as a workout at the gym or game of squash, and swimming during the same visit. The improvement work is being funded by West Oxfordshire District Council at a cost of £211,000. The Council’s leisure provider, Nexus Community, is carrying out the work on the Council’s behalf. Cllr Hilary Biles, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health, said: “The Council is committed to providing first-class leisure facilities for everyone in West Oxfordshire and this work is being carried out as part of that commitment. There has already been much work at the Windrush Leisure Centre to improve wet changing facilities, which has been a great success. This work will now ensure that the dry changing rooms are of the same high standard, creating bigger, brighter and more appealing facilities for people to use.” The new dry changing rooms are being built within the former swimming pool changing rooms, which were replaced with larger, improved poolside changing facilities within an extension of the leisure centre in 2006. Work on the dry changing rooms is due to be complete by July. Carey James, Partnership Manager for Nexus Community, said: “Customers and staff will really benefit from the improved changing facilities at the Centre. This work is just another part of the modernisation of Windrush Leisure Centre that the Council and Nexus Community are undertaking.”
