£20,000 towards new play equipment for Shipton
Posted: 01/04/2009 15:19:04
Children and young people in Shipton-under-Wychwood can look forward to getting a much-improved play area. West Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet has recommended that a grant of £20,000 be given to Shipton-under-Wychwood Parish Council to help buy a range of new play equipment for the village’s Recreation Ground. Residents have been researching different play equipment for the past 12 months and the items chosen will be installed alongside existing equipment. The Parish Council is contributing just over £11,000 towards the new equipment, which costs £44,500 in total. Applications are being made to other grant funders for the remaining amount needed. Cllr Hilary Biles, West Oxfordshire District Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health, and Young Persons’ Champion, said: “Being Ward Councillor for Shipton-under-Wychwood, I know just how much this will mean to local people and I am very pleased that the District Council is able to provide this amount of funding. I also know how much work has gone into researching the new equipment. Local residents and the Parish Council have done a sterling job to get this project this far, and I am looking forward to seeing the new equipment installed. It is wonderful news for children, young people and their families in the village.” The funding is being allocated from the District Council’s Outdoor Recreation and Play Facilities Grant scheme for 2008/9.
