Princess Royal to present prizes at golf day
Posted: 12/09/2006 12:14:42
A charity golf tournament at Cirencester has been given the royal seal of approval.
The Princess Royal, HRH Princess Anne, has agreed to present the prizes at the event being organised in October to raise funds for the Cotswold Victim Support group to help them to continue to provide practical and emotional support to victims of crime in the Cotswold district.
HRH The Princess Royal is President of the charity, but the event organiser, Tony Dix, said they were absolutely amazed when she agreed to present the prizes.
He said: "Once we decided on the event we looked for someone special to present the prizes. I wrote to Buckingham Palace more in hope than with any real expectation of success. We were all staggered and thrilled when we heard that The Princess Royal had agreed to present the prizes and make a short speech. I believe it is the first time she has ever done anything like this for Victim Support in Gloucestershire."
The event takes place at Cirencester Golf Club on Friday October 27th and it is restricted to 20 teams of 4 players.
Mr Dix, the Cotswold co-ordinator of the Victim Support Group, said they were working closely with the golf club to ensure the event was a success.
"We are also looking for sponsors who can sponsor a hole, donate a prize or give a donation and if anyone wants to be involved in such a prestigious event they only have to contact me, on 01285 658350" he said.
