Council will help fund Bampton play area revamp

Posted: 15/04/2009 11:29:49

Bampton Parish Council looks set to receive £11,000 from West Oxfordshire District Council towards redeveloping the Mercury Close play area.

The District Council’s Cabinet has recommended approval of a grant application by the Parish Council to help fund new equipment, fencing and seating. The Parish Council plans to fully renovate the play area using the funds.

In total, the redevelopment project will cost £27,500. Bampton Parish Council is contributing £8,250 and hopes to receive the remaining amount from another grant funder.

Cllr Hilary Biles, West Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health, and Young Persons’ Champion, said: “We know there is strong demand for this site to be kept as a play area and to be redeveloped. This will make a huge difference and provide a much improved facility for children and families in Bampton, and we are extremely pleased to support this.”

This is just one of the projects being supported by the District Council’s Outdoor Recreation and Play Facilities Grant Scheme for 2008/9.

Others bigger projects supported in 2008/9 include £20,000 each to help improve play areas in Shipton-under-Wychwood, Milton-under-Wychwood and Leafield.
