Council pledges £30,000 towards new pavilion
Posted: 17/08/2009 13:06:41
West Oxfordshire District Council has pledged £30,000 towards a new sports pavilion for Nine Acres Recreation Ground in Charlbury.
The Council has agreed to give the funding to Nine Acres Management Committee to help rebuild the existing pavilion to provide modern facilities and cater for more people, which will enable the local football and tennis clubs to expand.
The estimated cost of rebuilding the pavilion is £214,000. The District Council has allocated £30,000 towards the project from its 2009/10 Lottery Support Capital Grant budget. The funding is dependant on the management committee securing the rest of the money needed from other organisations.
The committee plans to build a new pavilion with two changing rooms, an officials’ changing room, toilets and a lounge area with tea bar and kitchenette. It will serve users of the recreation ground’s football pitches and tennis courts, including Charlbury Town Football Club and Charlbury Tennis Club, and its multi-use games area.
Cllr Hilary Biles, the District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health, said: “This building is outdated and the work is needed. It will provide much-needed facilities for the football and tennis clubs as well support various other sporting pursuits, such as netball. We are very proud to be able to give this grant and support a scheme that will help residents to take part in sports and active recreation.”
