John Lewis At Home Helps Children's Centre
Posted: 23/11/2010 17:31:12
Swindon-based charity Hop Skip and Jump received a welcome contribution this week thanks to the arrival of some ex-display furniture from John Lewis. The charity, which offers care and respite to families and children with special needs, is currently fundraising to build a new centre for disabled children in Swindon. The centre, to be built in the town’s Lydiard Park, will include specialist treatment rooms, sensory rooms, large play areas, and a wide variety of support facilities for families and carers from across Wiltshire. The furniture donated by John Lewis at home was used as part of a marketing campaign in the run-up to the opening of the new shop last month. The furniture – which makes up a room set – features a sofa, coffee table, rug and curtains and was put on display at Swindon, Chippenham and Kemble stations to advertise the new shop to commuters. John Lewis at home Swindon branch manager Dominic Joyce says: "Now the furniture has been used we are unable to sell it in the shop but, as it’s in excellent condition, we wanted to put it to good use. “Working with and supporting our local communities has always been an integral part of our business at John Lewis so donating the furniture to a worthy cause such as Hop, Skip & Jump was very important to us. “The charity’s new centre in Swindon will be a fantastic resource for many families and young people in the local area. The partners here at John Lewis at home in Swindon are really pleased to be helping Hop Skip & Jump and we hope this will be the beginning of a long relationship between the shop and the charity." Clarissa Mitchell, Founder of Hop Skip & Jump, said “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the furniture from John Lewis at home in Swindon, for the new Hop Skip & Jump centre planned for the town. We hope to use the furniture in the new centre, and anything we cannot use will be auctioned via ebay to raise money towards our £985,000 target.” “Every donation we receive brings us a step closer to our aim of providing flexible, immediate and sustained day care for families in Swindon. Through providing a range of services we will prevent families from reaching breaking point, and help to make their futures brighter."
