Witney Neighbourhood Management Update - April
Posted: 07/04/2011 10:59:25
Anti Social Behaviour A supermarket in the town centre has been suffering from anti social behaviour by a group of young people. The local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) has liaised with the management company and they are looking into the problem with the Witney neighbourhood team.
The lighter nights can sometimes mean an increase in underage drinking so the local PCSOs will be keeping an extra eye out on their patrols and will be seizing alcohol from anyone underage. If caught, the young person will also have their parents informed.
Other News On Thursday 31 March an anti drugs operation took place throughout the Witney area. This involved the licensing team from West Oxfordshire District Council, Thames Valley Police Officers and the Royal Air Force drugs dogs team. Although no significant arrests were made, the operation received very positive feedback from licensed premises and their customers. This was a classic partnership approach to a problem and is hoped to be repeated on many occasions in the future.
Thanks to the positive and lateral thinking of a local PCSO a vulnerable man was prevented from carrying out his threat to walk out of his home. Sadly due to his medical condition he would have certainly been at great risk if he had done so.
Following information received a drugs warrant was carried out at a local housing estate which resulted in the seizure of Class A and C drugs. Enquiries are ongoing and we hope to bring you more update on this next month.
“Have Your Say” surgeries On Thursday 24 March a “Have your say” meeting was held at Corn Bar and Smiths Estate. Anti social behaviour was identified as a major concern together with the problems of speeding and littering.
On Thursday 31 March a meeting was held in the Jacobs Mill-Stenter Lane area. A resident reported anti social behaviour issues with regards to loud music and advice was given to local residents.
Forthcoming surgery dates: Saturday 16 April: Deer Park estate 10am-12pm, Thorney Leys estate 2-4pm. Sunday 1 May: Crawley 10am-12pm, Minster Lovell 2-4pm.
Other News Members of the neighbourhood team attended the town council annual meeting where graffiti and anti social behaviour were discussed and the positive results were recognised.
And on a final note, a Witney resident withdrew money from a local ATM and forgot to take the cash. Another resident passed by, saw the money and handed it into the police station which was returned back to the grateful owner!
If you would like to contact the neighbourhood team please either telephone the non-emergency number: 0845 8 505 505 or email [email protected] In an emergency dial 999.
