Keeping children active this summer
Posted: 22/07/2011 12:33:16
A fun-packed line-up of activities is on offer at West Oxfordshire District Council’s leisure centres to help keep youngsters active during the summer holidays. Under-16s can swim for just £1 during selected sessions at Carterton, Chipping Norton and Witney’s Windrush Leisure Centres. In addition to the discounted swimming, various sessions are available including: · ‘Active Zone’, a holiday playscheme for 5-11 year olds at The Windrush, offering activities such as roller-skating, games, bouncy castle and face-painting. · Crash courses in swimming, trampolining, gymnastics and much more. · Racquet sports for just £1 for any age, Monday-Friday, at Chipping Norton Leisure Centre. The holiday activities run until the end of the school holidays and have been organised by the Council’s leisure contractor, Nexus Community, which manages leisure facilities in West Oxfordshire. Cllr Richard Langridge, Cabinet Member for Local Economy and Communities, said: “The leisure centres have lots of things going on to keep children and young people active during the summer break at very reasonable costs. There’s also the opportunity for them to try new things and make new friends, and we hope people take advantage of these great local facilities.” For warmer days during the holidays, Woodstock Pool offers open-air swimming as well as a large grass area for playing and picnicking as well as a café. There is also an independently-run Lido at Chipping Norton.
