Car parking charges in Bromyard to rise for first time in three years
Posted: 19/08/2011 14:04:34
Herefordshire Council is to increase parking charges at Bromyard’s Tenbury Road car park for the first time in three years.
Costs for parking will rise from 40p to 50p for one hour and from £1.20 to £1.50 for over four hours. Season ticket prices, however, have only risen from £165 per year to £175 per year, offering the chance to park all year for less than 50p a day.
The maximum charge for the Tenbury Road car park will be £1.50 all day, including Sundays, but Bank Holidays will remain free of charge.
Councillor Adrian Blackshaw, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for highways, transportation and waste, said: “People using the Tenbury Road car park in Bromyard have paid the same prices for the past three years despite rising inflation and an increase in VAT from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent.
“These increased charges are necessary so we can continue to maintain the car parks to a high standard as well as ensuring we can cope with budgetary pressures following the Government’s reduction in funding.
“The fact people can still park all day in Bromyard for £1.50 is incredible value for money when compared with neighbouring towns such as Tenbury Wells where it costs £3.
“We realise car parks are vital to the vitality of the town and have kept the increases to a reasonable level. We have also kept the rises on season tickets to a minimum so commuters can still park for less than 50p per day,” he added.
The new charges will be advertised prior to coming into effect on November 1, 2011.
