New era for Delivered Library Services
Posted: 10/10/2011 12:17:28
More than 60 years of library history came to an end on September 30th when the Herefordshire mobile library service made its final visits.
This service has now been replaced by an increased Home Delivery and nursing home provision which will continue to provide a service to those people in rural areas based upon their needs which will be assessed on the basis of health and mobility.
There has also been lots of interest from local groups, parish councils and organisations who want to work with Herefordshire Council’s library service to consider operating community-based libraries in places such as shops or village halls.
Already there have been firm approaches from groups in Brimfield, Fownhope, Longtown, Eywas Harold, Wellington and Much Dewchurch with a number of positive and innovative suggestions about how existing services can be enhanced through partnership working.
Councillor Roger Phillips, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for enterprise and culture, said: “We are delighted that we are continuing to provide a library service to more people who cannot get to other libraries and also that the community has shown such a positive response to explore how they can work with the council to increase the access in their areas by setting up their own community facilities.”
