Playing Fields and Five Inch Heels
Posted: 27/10/2011 15:55:53
Here Come the Girls Playing Fields and Five Inch Heels, a tale of teen team work, friendship love … and women’s football … will open at the Old Fire Station Theatre, Oxford, 11 and 12 November. Thirteen year old Tanya Phillips is painfully in love with footballing Heart-throb Jason Mc Andrew. When she discovers a local women’s football team share the same pitch, she decides to join the team to see more of him.
As the West Town Wanderers start to climb up the women’s football league Tanya discovers a talent that she never even knew she had. Finally Jason asks Tanya out on a date, but it is Semi Final day too. Tanya has a tough choice - playing fields or five inch heels?
The play has been written and directed by Mandy Constance and performed by Dream Studios, an inclusive drama group (involving children with moderate special needs) run by Mandy for children of all ages and abilities aged 9 – 15. It will feature a brand new script with some of the scenes being written by the children themselves, some music, some dancing ... and some football!
This will be the premiere of the play and will mark the opening of The New Old Fire Station Theatre. The action is set on a football pitch with a goal for a backdrop. The 25 strong cast wears football strip throughout. Saturday’s show on 12 November will feature a guest performance of the World Cup signature tune, Nessun Dorma, sung by Mike Woodward of Opera Anywhere. Performances start at 7.30 pm on 11-12 November at the Old Fire Station, George Street, Oxford. Tickets are £7.50 and available from the Dream Studios Box Office, tel, 01865 881480 or 07803 954362, email [email protected]
