Special Christmas Antiques Valuation Day
Posted: 14/11/2011 13:24:23
Have you wondered how an auction house really works? Or wanted to glean some tips on valuation from the professionals? Now is your chance !
By popular request Elizabeth Poole and Lindsey Braune, Directors of The Cotswold Auction Company, are holding their annual Christmas charity event, to take place at the Chapel Walk Saleroom on Tuesday, 6th December.
The master-class explores all aspects of the workings of an auction, how to buy and sell and allows a private view of the Special Christmas Antiques Sale with talks on selected items of the treasures on offer! There will be tips on identification of antique furniture, objets de vertu, silver, jewellery and watches. One coup for the Cheltenham saleroom this year is a rare and precious Russian malachite box in the form of a book, which will be handed round for close examination.
Last year’s attendees were fascinated by hints on dating and identifying Georgian silver and medals, valuing diamond rings and Russian art. A few brave souls were bold enough to try their hand on the auctioneers’ rostrum in a mock auction, while a mini antiques roadshow was given on items brought in. Lunch is provided, together with coffee on arrival and tea in the afternoon. The day starts at 10.30am and finishes at around 3.00pm.
It has proved to be a very happy and successful day in the past for all concerned (all profits to Children in Need and Cheltenham Museum and Art Gallery). Lindsey Braune and Elizabeth Poole look forward to the “Class of 2011”!
Tickets are priced at £35 per person, including refreshments, and can be obtained from The Cotswold Auction Company on 01242 256363 (contact Jocelyn Whitaker) or by e-mail via [email protected] Space is limited so book early !
