Stroke Awareness Day
Posted: 27/03/2012 17:32:40
The Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury are once again organising blood pressure tests as part of the National Stroke Awareness Day programme.
Volunteer nurses and doctors will be available at No 61 Broad Street, next to Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, from 9.30 until 3.30 on Saturday, 31 March. A free blood pressure test with advice on any health follow-ups required will be provided confidentially.
The club is fortunate in having three doctors as members who will be assisting with the testing. Other medical professionals will also help.
Shoppers in Chipping Sodbury and the public are invited to take this opportunity to take a health check. Rotary President Anthony Bourne will be having his blood pressure tested early in the day and urges members of the public to use this opportunity for a check.
“Last year135 were tested and 27 advised to see their GP for a follow-up,” commented Anthony.
Reviewing last years initiative Dr Tim Spare said, “ There are clear benefits from Stroke Awareness Day, over the last two years 293 people were tested and 61 (21%) were found to have high blood pressure and advised to see their GP. Taking corrective action as soon as possible can be a lifesaver.”
The annual campaign is supported by The Stroke Association and Rotary Clubs nationally. For Further information please contact: Barry Riley, Stroke Awareness Day Organiser 01454-314192
