2012 marks nineteen years for the Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair
Posted: 31/10/2012 10:13:01
The Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair is celebrating its 19th Hereford year in 2012. This years’ show will be held at The Courtyard Centre for the Arts on 16, 17 and 18 November.
Visitors will be able to meet the 61 national and regional makers at the show, with the opportunity to discuss their techniques and inspiration and buy or commission a unique piece of work. An extensive range of mediums will be exhibited at this years show, including furniture, ceramics, baskets, jewellery, stone carving, metalwork, glass and textiles.
21 of the exhibitors are Herefordshire based, including Ita Drew who is the recipient of 2012’s New Exhibitor Award. Ita works in mixed media ceramics and is inspired by the poems and stories she writes. Fuelled by the structure of fairy tales, Ita explores the cross over between adult experiences and childhood, portraying her work through the minds eye of a child. This results in very free, fantastical pieces with undertones of adult reflection. She said: “There are no real rules to my working process, sometimes work just happens as if it has fallen from the sky”. As part of the award Ita is given a subsidised stand, promotional postcards and extra publicity.
Visitors, who complete the Craft Fair Survey during the weekend, have the opportunity to win a £50 voucher to spend with the exhibitor of their choice. They can also vote for their favourite exhibitor, the Best Product award was given to popular Hereford Maker Bronwen Tyler-Jones in 2011 for her Metalwork Inventions and jewellery pieces, regulars to the fair will be pleased to know that Bronwen will be exhibiting with us again this year.
The Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair is managed by Herefordshire Council’s arts service. The first Fair took place in 1993 with approximately 30 exhibitors at the Town Hall in Hereford. It moved location when The Courtyard was completed in 1998 and has evolved into the high profile popular event it is today.
The show is open from 10am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday, 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Admission is £3. Visit the on-line catalogue for a preview of this year’s exhibitors at www.h-craftfair.co.uk
