Malmesbury Carnival and Festival 2013
Posted: 02/07/2013 13:30:11
The annual Malmesbury Carnival and Festival takes place during July, August and September with over 45 exciting events set to provide all the family with a summer to remember. Started around 90 years ago, the Malmesbury Carnival and Festival has grown into an exciting and diverse programme of entertainment and culture which promotes community spirit and raises money for local good causes. The aim is to beat the £18,000 given to local sports clubs, scouts and guides, children’s groups, schools and care and support groups in 2012.
If you have a group which could benefit from funds raised you can apply for an award using the application form on www.malmesburycarnival.co.uk
A new style FREE Carnival and Festival Guide with a Pull-Out Calendar of Events will be delivered to homes in Malmesbury and surrounding villages on 15th July. Extra copies will be available from the Malmesbury Tourist Information Centre in the Town Hall.
Eagle eyes will notice we’ve added the word ‘Festival’. This reflects the sheer variety and number of events and attractions including the traditional carnival procession, professionally staged theatre shows of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’ and Romeo & Juliet, wine tasting, one of the UK's top young bluegrass and folk acts, The Carrivick Sisters, a pet and teddy bear show, walks and talks, quiz nights, open gardens, comedy nights, outdoor theatre to name just a few. One of the main attractions will be Tony Hawks, TV and radio comedian whose credits include ‘Have I Got News For You’. Author of bestseller ‘Round Ireland with a Fridge’ and ‘Playing the Moldovans at Tennis’, Tony will be screening the feature film of ‘Playing the Moldovans at Tennis’ with a Q/A session afterwards.
2013 is set to be the best Malmesbury Carnival and Festival yet!
