Stonehouse PCSOs Hope We'll Meet Again after Successful Coffee Morning
Posted: 31/07/2013 09:52:40
PCSOs in Stonehouse have hailed a community coffee morning an unqualified success.
The event, entitled 'We'll Meet Again', run by local PCSOs in partnership with Stroud District Council was held on Monday morning(July 29) at Sherborne House in Stonehouse with the aim of bringing together groups of elderly people at sheltered housing complexes across Stroud district.
As well as a quiz and a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, the coffee morning was attended by various agencies including representatives from Gloucestershire Constabulary's Local Policing Team, Stroud District Council, Gloucestershire Fire Service and Stonehouse Food Bank, all providing the elderly with information on support services available to them.
It is now hoped that the idea will be rolled out to the other 25 complexes in the district.
Councillor Mattie Ross, Stroud District Council's Chair for Housing said "I'm absolutely thrilled by the event! It's great to celebrate the good things going on in Stonehouse. I hope that this event can lead to many more across the area."
Local resident Dee Wright said "I've thoroughly enjoyed today's coffee morning and I'm so glad that so many people turned out.
"The speakers were marvellous. 10 out of 10 for organisation!"
The initiative falls under one of Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl's priorities - 'Older but not overlooked'. Mr Surl said "Older people need to feel and remain an active part of our communities whether they live in their own homes or in residential care. It’s one of the main themes of my plan for less crime and more peace and good order.
“We can achieve that through events like this which are great for bringing people together who would otherwise be alone.
"Raising the profile of the local PCSOs and making people aware of other services that are there to support them will help to reduce any feelings they might have of isolation and vulnerability”.
