Chipping Norton Town Hall Public Conveniences
Posted: 15/11/2006 16:27:38
West Oxfordshire District Council has agreed that the way forward to improving public conveniences in Chipping Norton is to refurbish the current facilities at the Town Hall site.
The new scheme will provide two direct access cubicles for ladies, one of which will be fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and a 'gents' cubicle compliant with DDA plus a separate urinal. Both ladies and gents will have baby change facilities.
The Town Hall site has been of concern for some time and a range of solutions were investigated to find an alternative location for the public conveniences, in the historic centre of this market town.
The conclusions are that the current location, properly configured and modernised, provides the most effective solution. Access to these facilities will be improved, providing additional lighting and improved pathways. The toilets will be designed so that the lobby areas will be of a size to discourage loitering. They will also be coin-operated, 10p per use, and as vandal proof as possible.
Councillor David Harvey, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "We welcome the conclusion to this problem which has only been achieved through a good deal of hard work and ensuring that we have the best solution for the people of Chipping Norton and visitors to this area. The new facilities will be a credit to the District Council and I am sure that everyone will be pleased with the final outcome."
Refurbishing the Chipping Norton Town Hall public conveniences will cost £130,000 and is part of a major refurbishment programme across the district costing a total of £819,000. Work is expected to start early in the New Year.
