Chipping Norton Neighbourhood Management Update
Posted: 05/12/2006 16:07:52
The December update for Chipping Norton comes from A/PS Rosemary Dilsaver: "November has been another busy month for the Neighbourhood Team."
Chipping Norton
On 8 November we were able to mount a mobile phone and seatbelt operation in the Chipping Norton area utilising the Neighbourhood Teams from Chipping Norton and Carterton.
"The fact that so many Police Officers were involved in this operation has caused a stir within the community. However this was only possible because a training day had been cancelled but it went a long way to enforcing the road safety and law aspects of both offences which we all see flouted on a frequent basis.
"Parking! Another contentious subject. We respond to complaints from the public and we have had several complaints about the continued abuse of parking in Middle Row despite signs to the contrary, and Spring Street. Officers enforce the parking regulations as often as operational policing allows but as always we have been criticized by those who think that parking where they shouldn't is ok as long as there is no obstruction! The restrictions are there for a reason and while they are we will enforce them.
"A youth disco was held at the Town Hall on 17 November. Last year the Police provided assistance with a visual presence within the function. This was not possible this year due to operational commitments elsewhere, however passing attention was paid and a visit made to the event. No offences were reported that night which is a credit to the youths who attended and the organisers.
Charlbury "Charlbury has recently benefited from the regular visit of one of our PCSOs who is getting to know her community and also enforcing parking regulations, a source of complaint from the Town Council.
"It is widely believed that some adults in Charlbury are buying alcohol and supplying it to under 18s; this is an offence under the Licensing Laws punishable by an £80 fixed penalty. It is also a source of fuel leading to unacceptable anti-social behaviour.
The Wychwoods "Two Neighbourhood Team initiatives were held on the 17 and 24 November in The Wychwoods focusing on criminal damage in answer to complaints from the Parish Council. Although the weather was on our side no further incidents have been reported.
"Overnight on 11 November, five burglary non-dwellings occurred in Milton-under-Wychwood. Anyone with information please contact us via the numbers below.
The Bartons "It's been a relatively quiet month for The Bartons apart from one minor anti-social behaviour complaint which was dealt with.
Crime Figures "Crime in the Chipping Norton Neighbourhood (which includes surrounding villages) is 20% down on the corresponding month in 2005. A total of 81 crimes were reported this month which included 13 vehicle related, 12 shed burglaries and industrial units, five burglary dwellings including two distraction burglaries of elderly residents in Chipping Norton and Enstone, and 14 criminal damages."
