Attempted abduction - Chippenham

Posted: 05/01/2007 17:43:42

A few minutes before 7p.m. on Saturday 30th December 2006, a lone female was walking along the unclassified road, between Stanton St. Quinton and Kington St. Michael, intending to visit friends in Kington St. Michael, when a vehicle pulled up next to her. This vehicle is described as being a white 4 door car, believed to have been with a ‘V’ registration mark, and contained 2 men. After a brief conversation between the men and the female, the male passenger got out of the vehicle, and attempted to grab her. She quickly realised what was happening, and she punched out at this man, hitting him on the left side of his face, before running away. The man got back into the vehicle, and was driven off in the direction of Stanton St. Quinton.

Descriptions of both men are somewhat sketchy, but are as follows:-

PASSENGER:- White, aged 18/19 years old, short blonde hair, stubble on his face, wearing ripped jeans, scruffy white trainers, and an oldish looking black Timberland hooded top.

DRIVER:- White, aged 18/19 years, short black hair, wearing a white “New York Yankees” baseball cap.

Both men had Irish accents, and it is possible that the passenger may have an injury to his lip following the punch inflicted on him by the victim.

Detective Constable Jo CLEMENT from Chippenham CID is leading this investigation and is asking for help from members of the public to identify these 2 offenders. She said, “This was a potentially dangerous incident, and only the brave reactions of this lady, to what was happening, prevented this from being far more serious. I would ask all members of the public to look carefully at these artists impressions, and if anyone has any information as to their identity, I would ask that they contact the Police as a matter of urgency. These men need catching as quickly as possible.”

Information may be left by ringing Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000, or if preferred, anonymous information may be left on the Crimestoppers number of 0800 555111.
