Chipping Norton Neighbourhood Team update - Jan

Posted: 08/01/2007 11:54:52

A/Sgt Rosemary Dilsaver provides January’s update: “A very Happy New Year to all our readers.

“First of all some general information for you:

“The telephone number for all Police Stations is 0845 8 505 505 – if you don’t know the extension required, state the officer’s name and, if possible, shoulder number or speak to any of the Neighbourhood Team.

“Information - If you witnessed any of the crimes reported in this newsletter or have any information about any of them please contact either your local Neighbourhood Officer or any of the team who will pass it on.

“Crime reduction advice is available from Bill Butcher at West Oxfordshire District Council, Community Safety – telephone 01993 861638. Marking all property with a visible postcode is a major deterrent; the public are usually unwilling to buy something so obviously traceable.

“Parking in villages – Parents, please think where you park when dropping off or collecting your child/children from schools. Parked cars are a real problem at St Mary’s in the Green on the London Road Chipping Norton, and in all those villages which have schools.

Chipping Norton

Please contact Neighbourhood Officer PC Dave Tustian (PC 1966)

“Sadly the Christmas period in Chipping Norton Town was marred by crime: four vehicles were damaged and one was broken into in William Bliss Avenue during the night of 17/18 December. On the 13 and 18 December vehicles parked outside the Leisure Centre were broken into and articles stolen. Once again we plead do not leave articles on display in parked vehicles – favourite targets are satellite navigation systems and handbags.

“Sheds at the Banbury Road Allotments and the William Fowler Allotments (behind the Sports Field and Leisure Centre) have been broken into and articles stolen.

“An orange racing motor cycle was stolen from a garage on 6 December at about 7.30am to 8am.

“Youths have started causing problems for residents around the New Street Car Park, Chipping Norton, by their anti-social behaviour.

Charlbury

“Please contact PC Colin James (PC 4500).

“St Mary’s Church has again been targeted. Twelve windows were smashed on one occasion and several more on two further occasions. Damage has been caused to houses, property and vehicles in and around Charlbury.

“Alcohol continues to be a problem, especially in the Recreation Ground at Nine Acres. On New Year’s Eve to discourage underage drinking, police confiscated a quantity of lagers from a male aged over 18. This practice will continue. Following last month’s note, adults are reminded it is an offence to buy alcohol for use by those under the legal age, fixed penalties apply.

“Charlbury was the scene of a ram raid at 12.30am on 30 December when a small vehicle was driven into the Five-Ways Stores.

“Finstock – Between the 17 and 19 December tyres on seven vehicles in Hill Crescent were damaged or slashed.

The Wychwoods

Contact Neighbourhood Officer PC Gordon Monks (PC 3969).

“Patrols were increased to prevent anti-social behaviour and these will continue as far as resources allow.

“Trading Standards, West Oxfordshire Licensing Authority and the police worked together, visiting licensed premises to check alcohol was not being sold to the under-age. Only one outlet was in breach of regulations.

“Fifield - two burglaries, one theft from a motor vehicle and anti-social behaviour in the bus shelter were reported.

The Bartons

“Neighbourhood Officer PC Alaina Boswell (PC 5065)

“Criminal damage has been reported to vehicles and dwellings during December, around the Marshall lane and in the Worton Road.

“Youths have been causing a problem round the Sports and Social Club where litter and evidence of underage drinking continue particularly near the youth shelter.

“Several disturbances at the above location have required police attendance; the most recent incident involved local youths armed with golf clubs and hockey sticks in alleged self defence against youths from outside The Bartons.”
