Eynsham Neighbourhood Team monthly update – Jan

Posted: 08/01/2007 12:01:00

PC Pam Delahay introduces the first update of 2007: “Happy New Year to all from your local team. The New Year has not only brought us some new challenges but also a new Neighbourhood Manager, Sgt David Yates, who will now introduce himself to you.

“I have been with Thames Valley Police for four years, having worked at Cowley, Firearms Operations and Training, and most recently on shift at Thame, Didcot and Henley. I am really looking forward to working with the neighbourhood team at Eynsham who I am certain will continue to deliver the quality service to the communities in and around Eynsham.

“One of the neighbourhood priorities as you will be aware is damage/graffiti and although last month’s figures were much lower again across the area, it is still costing a lot of tax payers’ money to repair this damage. The below press release was done recently and we thought it should be included in this month’s update for your information.

The public toilets in the park on Oxford Road, Eynsham are being continually vandalised by youths, leaving residents to foot the bill.

So far the clean up has cost in excess of £2,650 to restore the facilities and as a preventative measure they are now shut at 4pm. The Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership urges parents to ensure their teenagers behave responsibly when using the park’s play area - otherwise residents risk losing these facilities.

Eynsham Neighbourhood Action Group recently transformed the existing kick wall in the park into a dedicated graffiti wall for young people in an effort to prevent this type of criminal damage occurring.

Ron Hollis, chair of the Neighbourhood Action Group says: “We have tried to tackle the persisting problem of criminal damage in the village by providing this designated graffiti wall and are disappointed to learn that the public toilets are still subject to vandalism.”
If anyone has information regarding these incidents please contact the Neighbourhood Team.

“The recruitment drive for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in Thames Valley is still ongoing. So, if you are interested in this career opportunity or know a man or woman that is then either look on the website: www.rewardingrole.co.uk, contact the team either by phone/e mail or even pop along to either of the two recruitment events taking place this month. They both run from 10am to 7pm.
