Carterton Neighbourhood Team monthly update – Jan
Posted: 08/01/2007 12:07:57
Sgt Mark Smith has January’s update: “Firstly, I would like to wish all residents in the Neighbourhood area a very Happy New Year from the Neighbourhood Team. We are looking forward to what the New Year will bring us. We are in the process of recruiting our new Police Community Support Officers and they will become very much a part of Neighbourhood policing throughout this year.
“Following burglaries in the Bampton and Clanfield area the team have been successful in identifying suspects. These burglaries have been at Bampton School and Clanfield post office. This has demonstrated the value of having local officers who work closely with their communities, as a result we have been able to make several arrests and recover property stolen in these burglaries. At the time of writing the investigations are still ongoing.
“Following the theft of bottles of milk from the door steps of 15 houses in Bampton, PC Patrick was able to identify and arrest those responsible, although in isolation the theft of a bottle of milk may be considered a minor crime, when 15 families are affected on one night it has quite an impact on the village. Thankfully we have been able to identify the offenders, and they are currently in the process of being dealt with.
“As part of our efforts to reduce crime and identify criminals who travel into our area to commit crime, we are conducting an operation using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) device. This system uses a state-of-the-art computer system to read car number plates and it will identify vehicles that are believed to be used by criminals and those that do not have tax or insurance. The team will be conducting an operation on two sites this month and I hope to update you next month with our results.
“We have had a number of incidents where persons have been reported acting suspiciously in the various building compounds on Shilton Park. I would urge anyone who sees people or vehicles acting suspiciously to ring us and we will send an officer to check this out. This also applies to any activity that you feel is suspicious, as I stressed last month, we need to know and would rather attend to check out a genuine person than attend to deal with a crime the next day. Thames Valley Police can be contacted on 0845 8 505 505 or in an emergency call 999.”
