Facilities at Pilton College officially opened

Posted: 10/01/2007 11:57:54

A major project to refurbish the arts centre at Pilton Community College will be officially opened on January 10th.

The 700,000 project has provided a wealth of new music, art and ICT facilities as well as a completely modernised student centre.

The development will be officially opened by the Chairman of Devon County Council, Des Shadrick, at 4.15pm on Wednesday, January 10.

The Barnstaple school now has reorganised and refurbished music, art and ICT facilities including two music teaching rooms, three practice rooms, two art rooms and a computer suite for up to 30 students.

There is a student centre with seven offices, a facility for the school nurse and first aid, three meeting rooms and a student waiting area.

Pilton principal Mark Juby said: "This has enabled us to locate our pastoral support in one area in a wonderful new building. The project has combined visionary design with pragmatic workmanship to give the building a "new" feel."

All the windows and doors in the building have been replaced and a lift and toilet facilities for the disabled installed.

The leader of Devon County Council Brian Greenslade, who is the local county councillor, said the scheme was a partnership between the college and the local authority.

"This is an excellent example of us working together to provide the best possible facilities for our young people," he said.
