ASBO Order Exeter

Posted: 18/01/2007 18:52:48

A 16-year-old youth from Exeter, who cannot be named, for legal reasons, was made subject to a 2 year ASBO (Anti Social Behaviour Order) at the City's Youth Court today, 17 January 2007.

The boy who is currently disqualified from driving is banned by his ASBO from being in possession or control of any motor vehicle, including mopeds, or the keys to any motor vehicle until such time as he is lawfully entitled to drive and has all the appropriate documentation.

He is also banned from entering the area of Cathedral Green and Cathedral Yard where he has caused anti social behaviour and has been dispersed under the S30 Dispersal Powers a number of times.

The ASBO also bans him from engaging in behaviour or language of a threatening or disorderly nature.

The local Neighbourhood Beat Manager, PC Paul Willis from the St Thomas Team said, “This ASBO is designed to try to prevent this youth causing trouble in the area where he lives and in the City Centre.

“It is also an attempt to prevent him using motor vehicles and mopeds unlawfully, where there is a risk to public safety if he causes an accident whilst disqualified and uninsured.

“By stopping him from having keys in his possession, this could reduce his temptation to get involved with vehicles and therefore limit the chance of him committing a vehicle related offence."

Rachel Wieck, ASB Officer for Devon & Cornwall Police said, “This is another example of using ASBOs in a creative way and keeping it specific to the anti social behaviour being committed.

“It comes in the same week that two youths from Barnstaple were made subject to ASBOs, bringing the total number of youth ASBOs in the Devon area to 23."
