Work starts on Avonmouth Hotel refurbishment
Posted: 18/01/2007 18:58:29
Work starts this week on the refurbishment and extension of the 'grand old lady of Mudeford' - The Avonmouth Hotel and Restaurant.
The extensions and alterations to the hotel will replace earlier extensions and provide a welcome refurbishment of the hotel, together with improved facilities and additional bedrooms.
The restoration of the historic fabric of the hotel, including the reinstatement of the timber sash windows, will positively enhance the listed building and the attractiveness of Christchurch to visitors.
Further work will include the construction of a bistro next to the harbour to complement the hotel, as well as an apartment building and two detached houses.
Cllr David Jones, chairman of Christchurch Council's Planning Control Committee, said: "The refurbishment work being undertaken at the Avonmouth will result in a hotel and restaurant which will be a great asset to Christchurch and will provide high quality accommodation to encourage tourists to the area."
